I am a cancer fighter. By next year, I will be a survivor. Five years must go by until you graduate. However, I am still teaching. 42 years have brought me so many experiences, but nothing like having cancer. My class of seventh graders spent the year not only learning about ancient civilizations, but what a person goes through during cancer treatments. In all of my years in front of classes, the school year 2011-2012 contained the most important curriculum I’ve ever taught: cancer is a word, not a sentence.
